One down....too many to go!!!
So, one interview down.
Now tell me - is asking about 'which area current students most likely end up in' an irrelevant question to ask? I didn't think so, but apparently my interviewer did. But you get that, the pretentious ones, the tired ones, the ones trying to test you, the ones who have seen one too many 'VCE' folios.
Otherwise, I think it went pretty well really. I spoke well about my work in a conceptual manner, and I think I presented a pretty good folio. Now to wait for an A, B or C....we will just have to wait and see.

Can I multiply myself, just for maybe a few weeks...
I have several university interviews so far, as well as starting a new job on Friday. I wasn't nervous till now, but after i wrote that I just got VERY nervous. Money is good though, as well is a new start.
I'm going to please myself by writing down some uni interview tips, whilst I wait for my washing machine to finish it's cycle...

- Confidence - this is the key I believe. Don't let the interviewers intimidate you, nor let them make you feel less confident.
- Speak conceptually - and in 'art terms'
- Study your artists/designers and know them
- GO AND SEE EXHIBITIONS AND GALLERIES!
- Be yourself
- Talk honestly
- Don't over-talk. No need to talk about every step taken in photoshop or how you used a "darken filter at 47% opacity"
- BE YOURSELF
- maybe be yourself.
I think thats enough for now. And tips for starting a new job? Heaven knows I have no idea....I have to use a cash register?? Crap.

Owls....never again!
Conceptual piece. This was basically about the symbols of my ancestry. The symbol of the town Bouf, where my grandmother is from in Macedonia is the owl. I wanted to show the qualities of an owl through the strong image of the female. Owls are solitary, strong, and wise creatures. They also are known to be 'old souls' (which is something a 'psychic' lady once told me I was) so they are very curious little creatures. I also wanted to give the girl/owl an spirit-y kind of look, as she is a mythical creature after all :)
Also I read this quote which inspired me a little before I started these -
"When philosophy paints it's gloomy picture, then a form of life has grown old. It cannot be rejuvenated by the gloomy picture, only understood. Only when the dusk starts to fall does the owl of Minerva spread its wings and fly."
It's quite hard to understand, I don't even quite understand it. Basically the owl was seen as a symbol is wisdom, and the quote basically says that philosophy cannot be determined before something has happened, but only after, in hindsight. This is only one of three owl/girls also.

Today felt like 3 days.
Evaluation is coming up...as I may have mentioned. And I've been stressing on a graphics assigment only to learn it wont be marked....*facepalm*
But it's okay, I'm really happy with the end result. I'll post it on here soon.
So tomorrow is my last official day of my course. I have evaluation next Wednesday and that is it. It has gone so fast.

So I love this new Goyte song. To be honest I have literally never listened to him before, and I heard this song on the radio and I love it (despite James hating it)
So...last week of tafe. It's gone so quickly. Uni applications are all out, and I already have one interview time...I hate waiting for the others, I am way too impatient.
Trying to complete tafe work this week. Also, instead of an end of year exhibtion, tafe teachers have told us we'll be having a book launch instead, which is pretty cool. They're publishing a book for us, with a double page spread for each of us. Should be good.

a reintroduction
My name is Alex, and basically I just wanted to reintroduce myself for documentations sake. Currently I am studying a Certificate IV in Arts and Contemporary Crafts.
At the beginning of the year my main intention was to continue on after this year, studying fine art and some form of institute. I was so set on being an artist, and was basing my whole folio on that notion.
Over the year, after taking part in a graphic design elective, I found myself more and more 'into' graphics, and more able to use my drawing and hand skills to create design pieces. As well as this I found I was able to include my love of typography in graphics, more so then I could in my other more fine art-y subjects.
And thus I have now decided my main preferences will be design courses. Hopefully this will work for me, and I'm sure it will. I fell much more comfortable being in a design course whilst doing a fine art subject, rather then being in a fine art course and being restricted to only one design subject.
I feel, for me, the structure of a design course will work better for me, just for the reason that I am not so good at self directed work....I am so bad with 'starting off'. I would much rather that I be given a brief and be told exactly what I am to design - whilst bringing my own artistic flair and hand-skills into my designs.
Story of my life, changing my mind all the time. But hopefully it will work for me....I think it will.

As I haven't used blogger in ages, I'll put up some progress of my current work, and work from last semester. The first will be some images for a graphics assigment, and the other will be a contemporary illustration I completed, with the intention of illustrating the phrase 'Man With No Neck'. I chose to go the oppposite way, a bit ironic, and give my little man a massive long neck, full of crazy random stuff.

Last week I attended the AGIdeas confrence in the city. Despite the fact that he wasn't in out group of guest speakers, kinetic sculptor Theo Jansen was amazing. I have seen videos of his sculptures, moving with the wind along beaches. They almost look like the skeletons of animals, and are amazing to look at. This guy seems like he's onto something big in engineering and stuff, his work is great.

i have been slack.
...But I do like cosmic/galaxy things. I got this amazing Stussy top the other day covered in a cosmic print. It's love. Here's some pictures of some cosmic lighting in photographs. I like them a lot.

Ah, to be rich.
